Caja Laboral’s profit after tax for 2009 came to 56.5 million euros, which is 43.8% down on the figure posted in 2008. The profit from recurring business before transfers rose by 22.8% and the institution, by means of applying prudential criteria, doubled its provisions in spite of the containment of default, which was at 2.90%, a figure clearly below the average for the sector.

Fagor Electrodomésticos seals the takeover of the Brandt Group, the French domestic appliance leader, for 162 million euros
Fagor Electrodomésticos has reached an agreement with Elco Holland BV, a subsidiary of Elco Holdings Ltd., for the 162.5 million euros takeover of 90% of the Brandt Group which until now was in the hands of the aforementioned Israeli group. Thanks to this agreement, the co-operative now controls 100% of the leading French white goods company and becomes the fifth biggest domestic appliance manufacturer in Europe.

Biurrarena installs a refrigerator recycling plant in Cerceda
The Biurrarena co-operative, which has its headquarters in Astigarraga in the province of Gipuzkoa and belongs to the MCC, is completing the installation of a refrigerator recycling plant in Cerceda (A Coruña) for the temporary joint enterprise set up by Ferrovial and Cadagua. The plant will process obsolete appliances and other bulky items generated in the autonomous community of Galicia as a whole. The total operation is worth 2 million euros.

From its early days, the Mondragón Co-operative Experience has been known for its commitment to solidarity and social responsibility. In addition the MCC annually invests 10% of the profits of its co-operatives in projects of a social nature, channelled through the Education and Co-operative Promotion Fund.
