Fagor Industrial to set up a plant in Turkey

  • Date: Tuesday, December 09, 2003

The plant, work on which will start during the first quarter of next year, will be built on a 12,568 m2 site and occupy an effective surface area of 7,000 m2, of which the production plant will account for 4.500m2, the warehouses 2,000m2 and the offices 500m2. It is expected that the plant will come into operation at the end of 2004 or early 2005.

Fagor Industrial will manufacture, during an initial phase, cold cabinets and counters for the hotel and catering trade. During a second phase, the plans are to manufacture products, which because they are made to order, are difficult to market properly. The plant will initially provide work for 100 people, in addition to the knock-on work generated in the area in small workshops, transport and services in general.

For 2005, which will be the first year of operation, the forecasts are for a minimum turnover of 7 million euros, with annual increases of 30% in subsequent years. This figure is thought to be quite realistic, if it is taken into account that this year, Fagor Industrial is going to record a turnover of more than 4 million euros in the Turkish market, without any direct production facilities in the country.

The Gebze Güzeller Industrial Estate occupies a privileged location, as it is close to Istanbul, the economic capital of Turkey and near the motorway linking Istanbul with Ankara. Another MCC company is also to found on this industrial estate. A subsidiary of Copreci will shortly be starting to produce domestic appliance components with the aim of supplying the Turkish plants operated by domestic appliance manufacturers.

The location of the Industrial Estate is not just strategic for the Turkish market, but also for neighbouring countries which Fagor Industrial has started to supply with products from its office in Turkey, like for example Romania, Bulgaria, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.

Fagor Industrial currently has sales offices in 12 countries and five production plants: two in the town of Lucena in the province of Cordoba, one in the Catalan city of Vic, another in the French city of Villeneuve and the main plant in Oñati. The total effective surface area of these five production plants is 42,000 m2 with an overall workforce of 813 people. In 2003 the company will record a turnover of 102 million euros, with 45% corresponding to international sales. Its main markets abroad are, in order of importance: France, Italy, United Kingdom, United States, Poland, Russia, Portugal, Australia and Malaysia.
