EROSKI opens a hypermarket in the Canary Islands

  • Date: Tuesday, November 30, 2010
On 26 November last, EROSKI opened a hypermarket in the Canary Islands, located in the Mirador de Jinámar Shopping Centre, where the capital Las Palmas de Gran Canaria meets the town of Telde, close to the South Highway.
The new centre has a surface area of 10,540 m2 and will create 200 direct jobs and 500 indirect jobs.
From the start EROSKI undertook to embark upon negotiations with the islands’ producers and distributors and over several months met with associations, producers, co-operatives and municipal, regional and island bodies. As a result of these contacts over the last few months, EROSKI has incorporated products from 150 Canary Island companies in the food sector, which means just over 1,500 Canary Island products: a clear commitment to the local economy.

The Mirador Shopping Centre, which EROSKI is the co-owner of, has more than 90,000 m2, divided between two levels, with 120 leisure outlets, clothes shops, etc. It has 3,400 outside and 600 covered parking spaces. The investment was in excess of €250m.
