Agustin Markaide, new president of Eroski

  • Date: Tuesday, February 01, 2011

Agustín Markaide is, from 1st February, the new executive president of the EROSKI Group, coinciding with the start of the economic year. He is taking over from Constan Dacosta, who is to retire on 30th April at the official retirement age, after fifteen years as president and more than 39 years with EROSKI.

Agustín Markaide becomes president after his election in June 2010 by the General Assembly of members and does so after having served as Managing Director for the last ten years.
Agustín Markaide has degrees in law and business science from Deusto University (ESTE faculty). He has spent his entire career working in the co-operative movement, mainly with EROSKI, where he has held a number of different top management posts until fifteen years ago he became the managing director of the Eroski co-operative, the Group’s parent company. Since 2001 he has combined that post with that of Managing Director of the Group and also that of president of the Congress of the MONDRAGON Corporation

New challenges
In this new phase with Agustín Markaide as president, Eroski aims to become a store chain that better meets the requirements of its customers, who are demanding good prices but also a wide range of products to choose from; in short, more competitive and attractive. With this strategy, Eroski will be looking for long-term partnerships with leading manufacturers, and especially stock breeders and farmers. Over the next few years, the full transformation of the group into a co-operative will be completed, giving rise to a unique, strong company, based on worker co-operation, especially with the shoppers in each store.
