Maier inaugurates the new Maier Technology Centre
Maier, a manufacturer of components and subassemblies for the automotive and domestic appliance sectors, has today inaugurated the new Maier Technology Centre, located in the Arabieta industrial estate, in Ajangiz. The official inauguration was attended by
José Mª Aldecoa, the president of
MONDRAGON Corporation;
Xavier Garmendia, deputy minister of Industry from the Basque Government’s Department of Industry and
Iosu Madariaga, Head of the environmental area at the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, among others. The retinue walked around the new facilities, a 1,700m2 extension to the existing MTC technology centre set up in 1995.
Later, after the visit, the managing director of the Maier Group, Juan Luis Irazábal, said that “with the new MTC we want to make Maier the centre of reference for R&D in the automotive sector internationally, a catalyst for ideas and talent, a place where cars learn to smile. Our technology has soul, its own personality, which is why what we do is emotional technology, done by and designed for people, to improve our lives one way or another”.
The investment in this extension, which totalled €5.8m, has been endorsed by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, the Basque Government and the Ministry of Science and Innovation. Thanks to this extension, Maier will be putting its new facilities at the service of 115 researchers and engineers.
The new MTC

The new MTC has new functional areas, amongst which the Think Tanks stand out, rooms which will become the places of work for the development teams; together with a chemical test laboratory and another physical test laboratory; a building with machines used in research work, as well as new quick meeting rooms and a product showroom, where clients can appreciate the finish and test the functionality of the range of car components.
The extension is completed with a prototyping area, another for researching chrome-plating and an installation and painting area equipped with injection machines for decoration using laser technology.
One of the standout features of the building is the glazed facade, decorated with sheets of glass simulating car grilles, Maier’s star product.
