The Valld'Hebron University Hospital and the Valld'Hebron University Hospital Research Institute Foundation (VHIR) and MONDRAGON Health have signed a collaboration agreement. This involves a new strategic partnership oriented towards the sphere of R+D to promote the collaboration in the fields of science and technology in activities of mutual interest to contribute to the development of the Healthcare Sector in the Autonomous Communities of Catalonia and the Basque Country.

This agreement aims to promote the generation, the exchange and the transfer of knowledge through carrying out research and innovation projects, training programmes, as well as promoting joint activities.

The agreement, which will have a duration of one year and which will be extendable annually, has been signed today, Monday, at the MONDRAGON Corporate HQ and has been endorsed by Jose Luis de Sancho, Manager of the Valld'Hebron University Hospital; Joan X. Comella, legal representative of the Valld'Hebron University Hospital Research Institute Foundation (VHIR); Javier Sotil, Vice-President of  Innovation, Promotion and Knowledge, MONDRAGON Corporation; and Mikel Álvarez, Managing Director, MONDRAGON Health.



Development areas
The activities which are targeted in the present agreement are, among others, the following: fostering collaboration in e-health projects; Identifying opportunities for improvement in the field of Intra-hospital Rehabilitation and Home Rehabilitation in addition to other market opportunities in the fields of Diagnostics and Services for the Elderly in the Healthcare Sector and chronic patients; Identifying collaboration opportunities for the signing entities and especially in the field of Training in Healthcare Administration for senior and middle Managers. 
In a more operative terrain, certain specific opportunities have already been detected, such as the improvement in the field of manipulation and dosing of pharmacological substances, the improvement in the field of preparing and dispensing medicines (tracking and patient safety processes), the automation of Microbiology Services, Genetics Service, Pathological Anatomy Service and other services, the collaboration in the sphere of Bio-mechanics and Nanotechnology and in Home Point of Care and Hospital Point of Care projects.

The members of the partnership
Valld´Hebron University Hospital. This is the leading hospital complex in Catalonia and one of the largest in the Spanish State, it comprises four large centres -the General Area, the Mother-Infant Area, the Traumatology and Rehabilitation Area and the Outpatient Surgery Unit - which cover nearly all medical and surgical specialities with a total of 1,400 beds.
Valld’Hebron University Hospital Research Institute Foundation (VHIR). This is a non-profit entity whose aim is to encourage, promote and favour research, innovation, scientific and technological knowledge, teaching and training in the sphere of the University Hospital Valld'Hebron (HUVH), of the Barcelona Autonomous University (UAB) and their areas of influence. Its mission is to carry out bio-medical research of a high standard and the promotion of applying this research to improving the health of citizens.
MONDRAGON Health. MONDRAGON Health is the platform of the MONDRAGON Corporation for promoting new business developments in products and services targeting the healthcare sector. Its strategy is aimed at developing areas such as social healthcare, e-Health, the automation of hospital processes, the logistics of the healthcare sector and the development of global projects in the sector.
