MONDRAGON Health creates the company SHS for Health Centre purchasing and supply logistics
MONDRAGON Health has recently founded a new company, Smart Health Services (SHS), for managing integrated purchasing and supply logistics services for health centres. This is a new business, combining a variety of health centre services, and its aim is to become a new driving force for integrating the capacities of different entities forming part of the Corporation.
The object of this new business project will be to provide health care material purchasing and supply logistics consultancy services. In short, it is an innovative proposal providing a comprehensive solution for the health centres’ most common requirements: purchasing logistics, e-procurement, catalogue streamlining and logistics services connected with the supply and distribution of materials for health care and socio-sanitary use.
Configuration of the enterprise
SHS is an initiative promoted by the MONDRAGON Health cooperative platform, which holds 51% of its shares. The firm Kudea is also a stakeholder, with 40%. Kudea is an expert company specialising in management of purchasing and general contracting processes, with experience in the private health care sector. The LKS Consultancy Area also forms part of the alliance, with a capital share of 9%.
A comprehensive solution for hospitals
Health care services, and public health services particularly, are currently seeking to reduce costs to achieve system sustainability. Purchase management and supply and distribution are high-impact areas for increasing the efficiency of the health care system.
In the words of Eva Gerrikagoitia, SHS’ Managing Director, “the real possibilities of optimising both management costs and quality are considerable, and over the last few years initiatives have been set up in different areas of management, particularly in indirect services that are not directly associated with patient care”.
Finally, this new business project is being undertaken in the context of MONDRAGON’S recently approved Social and Business Policy for 2013-2016, which favours inter-cooperation, innovation and proactivity in the alliances for launching new greater value-added businesses.
