MONDRAGON takes over the company CTC Construcción Selfhor based in Corella

  • Date: Wednesday, October 22, 2008

CTC Construcción SelfhorCTC Construcción has been taken over by Mondragón from the previous shareholders (Sodena and Caja Navarra) by means of three of its bodies: the Construction Division, which has purchased 40% of the capital and will be in charge of leading the project, MCC Inversiones (30%) and the Development Company MCC Navarra (30%). Sodena will continue to have an indirect holding in the capital of CTC Construcción, through MCC Navarra, an investment fund set up to back projects that can be carried out in the region with overall and strategic profitability.

CTC Construcción Selfhor, which has a workforce of 140 people, posted a turnover of 23 million euros in 2007, making it one of the most representative firms of the Ribera Navarra area, especially in Corella and its surrounding area, in terms of both direct and knock-on employment. Strategically located on the axis of the River Ebro, its main markets are Madrid, the Basque Country and Cataluña, in addition to the regions of Aragón, La Rioja and Navarra. The main sectors to which it supplies its products are in building of an industrial nature, commercial building and civil engineering, with more than 400 projects carried out in its ten years of existence.

CTC Construcción, unlike what normally happens in the sector, does not just supply the components but also provides the design and the engineering for the project, having carried out exceptional projects like the Arenal car park in Bilbao, industrial buildings like the Data Processing Centre at Eroski’s headquarters, leisure centres like Noboo in Tudela, and a number of industrial estates in Madrid and Pamplona, desalination plants like the one in Tordera in Girona, or water-treatment plants like the one in Baix Llobregat.

This takeover operation fits perfectly into the development strategy and policy of Mondragón Construcción, as it completes the circle of its extensive and varied offer in terms of structures: with URSSA as a manufacturer recognised worldwide of metal structures and projects as emblematic as the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, the Kursaal in San Sebastian or the Collserola Tower in Barcelona; with Elur as a manufacturer of laminated wood structures and now CTC as an expert in prefabricated concrete structures.

It also fits in very well with the increasing trend towards the industrialisation of processes related to construction, both in public works and civil engineering or in the building of homes. Taking as a reference what has been happening in countries more advanced in the construction area like the United States, Italy or France, it is estimated that prefabricated concrete structures have a enormous capacity for expansion in Spain and an interesting future. This is demonstrated by the figures for recent years which have grown in this segment of activity year-on-year in Spain by around 18%.

A singular element common to the activities of URSSA, Elur and CTC Construcción, which in 2008 will post an overall turnover of more than 100 million euros, is the decisive contribution of design and engineering in their construction activities. Unlike other construction companies, in which just manufacturing predominates, these three Mondragón Construcción companies stand out for having their own technological and development capability, based on the running of a very strong Technical Department, specialising in design and engineering, which enables them to meet the needs of their clients in a very personal and exceptional way.
