The Eroski Group creates 600 jobs in its 33 new stores in the first quarter

After the takeover of Caprabo, the Eroski Group now has a chain of 2,348 stores and a turnover in excess of 8,600 million euros, providing employment for more than 47,000 workers, of which 13,258 participate in the ownership, results and management of the company.

The 33 new stores opened during the first quarter are as follows: 6 hypermarkets, 8 Eroski/Center supermarkets, 5 self-service stores, 6 IF perfume stores, 5 Eroski/viajes branches, 2 Forum Sport stores and one petrol station. These stores have been opened in the Valencia, Galicia, Basque Country, Castilla La Mancha, Castilla y León, Murcia and Cantabria regions.

This year the Eroski Group plans to invest 750 million euros, which will enable all the Group’s strategic commercial formats to be developed, those in which food predominates with hypermarkets and supermarkets and those involving diversification, amongst which the perfume stores, travel agency branches, petrol stations and sportswear and equipment stores stand out.

In 2006 investment accounted for 612 million euros and was mainly earmarked for the incorporation of 88 new stores into the chain and the promotion of new shopping centres and hypermarkets.

After the incorporation of Caprabo, the Group’s retail chain now consists f105 EROSKI hyepermarkets, 1,035 EROSKI/center, Caprabo and EROSKI/city supermarkets, 266 EROSKI/viajes branches, 49 petrol stations, 42 Forum Sport stores , 230 IF perfume stores and 26 distribution depots. In addition to this chain there are also 584 self-service franchise outlets. In France, the Eroski Group operates 4 hypermarkets, 16 supermarkets and 17 petrol stations.
