Kide opens its plant in India
RCS KIDE PVTY is a joint-venture in which Kide has a 51% holding and its Indian partner RCS “Roots Cooling” a 49% holding. At its facilities in Pune it has started to manufacture insulation panels and doors for cold stores, together with marketing commercial and industrial refrigeration equipment, aspiring to become the market leader in quality cold stores in India.
The initial workforce is 15 people, which is forecast to rise to 20 by the end of the year. Turnover for this first year 2009 is expected to be 5 million euros with the company operating in India and neighbouring countries.
The Pune plant is a rented building in which Kide plans to remain for about 20 months. During this time the definitive RCS KIDE PVTY plant will be built in the new MONDRAGON INDIA Industrial park, which will be located not far from the provisional plant, also in the state of Maharashtra.
The definitive plant will be located on an extensive 40,000 m2 plot where Kide will build an initial 8,000 m2 production plant, with the possibility of successive extensions over the next few years. The plans are for this plant to come into operation in the last quarter of 2010, a year in which turnover is forecast to rise to 8 million euros, with a workforce of 40.
The Kide co-operative, which posted a turnover of more than 25 million euros in 2008, manufactures insulation panels and doors, as well as commercial refrigeration equipment. It is also the market leader in cold stores for the food and agriculture sector in Spain. It has commercial subsidiaries in France and Portugal and is immersed in an ambitious internationalisation project aimed at market diversification as far as sales, production, partnerships and purchasing are concerned.
Within the framework of this internationalisation process it is worth highlighting that, in addition to this subsidiary in India, Kide has another production plant in China, in the city of Jiaxing, which started its activity last year with the manufacture and marketing of commercial and industrial refrigeration equipment, aimed at the Chinese and Asian markets. It has a workforce of 12 people and expects to post a turnover of 2 million euros this year.
With these two projects in India and China, the Berriatua-based co-operative is aiming to consolidate its presence in international markets with high potential for growth. With the same objective in mind, it is continuing to analyse other possibilities for setting up production plants abroad, especially in the Latin American market, which it expects to see materialise in the next three years.
