Mondragon Unibertsitatea’s Higher Polytechnic School extends its facilities for intelligent electronic and engineering design

  • Date: martes, 17 de marzo de 2009

The “Centre for Research and Technological Innovation in Electronics and Embedded Systems” is Mondragón Unibertsitatea’s biggest infrastructure investment since the university was set up and will be a point of reference at the national level. This centre will enable a fundamental challenge for the country’s economy to be met: the development of technology of our own which Spain has to tackle to increase its competitiveness in an ever more globalised market, in which manufacturing does not mean any added value.

Located in the Garaia Innovation Park, it will occupy a surface area of 13,000 m2 and will cost more than 18 million euros. The building will have three storeys and a ground floor and will practically double the Higher Polytechnic School’s student capacity in electronics, computer science and telecommunications, with the current total of 574 students expected to increase to 900.

The project will integrate four complementary areas of activity: research activities and laboratories, technology transfer and innovation projects, consulting and engineering activities and promotion of new technology-based companies. To this end, it will integrate the work of researchers, third level students, postgraduate and graduate students, research lecturers and foreign students, who will work together with personnel from technology centres and companies.

This centre comes into being at a time in which research and innovation have become key, strategic elements for Mondragon Unibertsitatea. The aim is to develop technology of our own in an ever globalised market, with this centre’s two main lines of research carried out within the framework of the National Plan for Scientific Research, development and Technological Innovation.

In short, the objective is for Mondragon Unibertsitatea to lead and promote the development, methodology and design of technologies in electronics and embedded systems. Why? Because these are the technologies which add most value to products, bearing in mind that such products will be manufactured increasingly in Asian countries where it is very difficult to compete on price.
