Today in Mondragón, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía presided over the placing of the first stone at the Garaia Innovation Park and opened the new Fagor Electrodomesticos plant facilities in Garagarza. King Juan Carlos told journalists that “the MCC is good for Euskadi, for Spain and for the workers” adding that “we need to set up more groups like this in Spain as well as professional and technical universities like the ones the Group has”.

The agreement will remain in force for three years, and may be extended for further periods of two years.

From its early days, the Mondragón Co-operative Experience has been known for its commitment to solidarity and social responsibility. This includes, first and foremost, the significant contribution it makes to the welfare and improvement of the quality of life of Basque society through the creation of employment and business activity. In addition the MCC annually invests 10% of the profits of its co-operatives in projects of a social nature, channelled through the Education and Co-operative Promotion Fund. This accounted for 36 million euros in 2002.
